Welding Procedures and Qualifications for NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 Compliance

Is NACE TM0177 Required for Welds Qualified to NACE MR0175?

If a weld is qualified to NACE MR0175, the question arises whether NACE TM0177 is also necessary. According to NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, Part 2, and NACE TM0177, if the welding procedures (WPSs) are already qualified in accordance with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, testing them in accordance with NACE TM0177 is not required.

Results of Testing Welding Procedures Qualified to Conform to NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 with NACE TM0177

When testing WPSs in accordance with NACE TM0177, which have already been qualified to conform to NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, certain results can be expected. The purpose of testing welds in accordance with A.2.1.4 is to confirm their resistance to cracking. The obtained results can be utilized to verify the adequacy of hardness control specified in A.2.1.4 or to define alternative requirements for weld hardness control in order to prevent sulfide stress cracking.
