NACE MR0175/ISO 15156-2: Acceptability of Weldments with Nickel > 1%?

Interpretation of ISO 15156-2 Subclause A2.1.4 Welding

Can Weldments with Ni Content Exceeding 1% be Accepted?

If you’re wondering whether weldments with a Ni content exceeding 1% mass fraction can be accepted if the weld procedures pass SSC qualification testing or if they must be stress-relieved at a minimum temperature of 620°C after welding with a maximum weld zone hardness of 250 HV or 22 HRC, the answer is:

SSC Qualification Testing Applies Regardless of Stress Relief

The requirement for SSC qualification testing applies regardless of the use of stress relief. The intent of the paragraph does not negate the requirement in the following paragraph. This information is based on ISO 15156 Maintenance Panel Inquiry #2013-07.

At OGC Energy, we receive numerous inquiries related to stress relief and nickel content in weldments. It’s important to note that weldments with Ni content exceeding 1% mass fraction must be qualified.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your weldments meet the necessary standards and are safe for use.
