NACE HIC and ISO 15156/ NACE MR0175 Compliance

Overview

The following text is a code or shortcode for use on a website. It discusses a question related to the purchase of steel that complies with ANSI/NACE MR0175/ISO 15156-2 and whether it includes resistance to HIC. The response clarifies that ISO 15156/NACE MR0175 covers all cracking mechanisms caused by H₂S, including HIC/SWC. Section 8 in ISO 15156/NACE MR0175 Part 2 describes how carbon and low alloy steels shall be evaluated for resistance to HIC/SWC.

Requirements for HIC Resistance

As only flat-rolled carbon steel products are susceptible to HIC/SWC, requirements for HIC resistance must be listed in the purchase order. The response makes note of the use of the word “”shall”” in Section 5.2, which requires a list of specific information to be included in the purchase order, such as “”requirements for HIC resistance.””

NACE MR0175/ISO 15156-2, Clause 5.2

The inquiry relates to NACE MR0175/ISO 15156-2, Clause 5.2, which specifies the requirements for the purchase order.
