FAQ's

Is NACE MR0175 used only for sour service?

NACE MR0175: Metallic Materials in Oil and Gas Production Environments

NACE MR0175 is an international standard that outlines the requirements for metallic materials exposed to H₂S in oil and gas production environments. It is identical to ISO 15156, and ANSI/NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 lists the requirements for carbon steels, low alloys, and corrosion-resistant alloys exposed to H₂S in oil and gas exploration and production environments.

What Is Sour Service According to NACE MR0175?

Sour service, according to NACE MR0175, is defined as “”Exposure to oilfield environments that contain sufficient H₂S to cause cracking of materials by the mechanisms addressed by NACE MR0175/ISO 15156.””

While NACE MR0175 is commonly associated with sour service, it may also be applicable to production environments that do not face an immediate risk of H₂S exposure.
