Case Study

Causeway Asset Integrity Management System

Client

Valiant Petroleum plc. (As of 19th of April 2013, Ithaca Energy Inc acquired Valiant Petroleum plc)

Location

North Sea UKCS.

Background

The Causeway Development is a sophisticated production system consisting of two wells, P1 and P2, connected to the North Cormorant Platform through a 16km long, 8 inch diameter production flowline. The production from these wells is maintained and optimised through the use of a single well water injection system.

Challenge

Valiant Petroleum faced a significant challenge in maintaining the integrity of its assets throughout production and decommissioning, especially given its streamlined organisation and need for a nimble and adaptable solution to comply with stringent UK regulations. To overcome this challenge, the company required a comprehensive Asset Integrity Management System (AIMS) that would enable them to proactively address any potential issues and ensure regulatory compliance.

How OGC Energy Helped Valiant Petroleum

The OGC Energy team took the lead and assembled a consortium of subsea specialists to develop an Asset Integrity Management System (AIMS) that would meet the needs of the Causeway Asset. The team put together a comprehensive AIMS that included:

● Integrity Management Philosophy
● AIMS Policy, Roles and Responsibilities.
● Asset Register
● Risk Assessment Methodology
● Risk Register
● Inspection, Monitoring and Repair Strategy

The AIMS development activities included extensive documentation, a risk identification workshop, and support in updating the asset register and interfacing with various vendors. The end result was an AIMS that was fully compatible with current industrial practices, such as DNV-RP-F116, and was implemented in a timely fashion prior to start of production.
The implementation of the AIMS by the OGC Energy team was a complete success. The AIMS not only sustained the integrity of the assets but also provided business continuity by ensuring the continuity of operations. The risk identification workshop was a key factor in the success of the AIMS as it allowed the team to identify potential risks and put in place mitigation measures to address them. The support provided in updating the asset register and interfacing with various vendors also ensured that the AIMS was integrated seamlessly into the existing operations.
The OGC Energy team's expertise in developing and implementing Asset Integrity Management Systems has proven to be a valuable asset to the Causeway Asset. The AIMS has sustained the integrity of the assets and provided business continuity, allowing the Causeway Asset to operate with confidence. The OGC Energy team continues to be a leader in the subsea industry and a trusted partner in asset integrity management.
